Most of our flower bulbs come from our own nursery in Vijfhuizen. This nursery is called Van Haaster Vijfhuizen (VHV). We also work with an old friend who lives nearby on his own farm. Naturally, all flower bulbs come from the beautiful Netherlands.
Most flower bulbs, if stored correctly, can be kept for approximately 12 months before they need to be planted. The lifespan of flower bulbs mainly depends on how well they are stored. Please note that the quality of the flower decreases with each season the bulb is not planted in the ground.
Make sure you store the flower bulbs in a cool and dry place. Suitable locations include a garage, basement, storage shed or attic. Avoid freezing the bulbs and keep them away from direct heat sources. Do not store the bulbs in the same place you store fruit, as gas released by ripening fruit can be harmful to the bulbs.
Planting flower bulbs is generally simple. Dig a hole in the ground, place the flower bulbs with the point up and cover them with soil. Make sure you follow the recommended planting depth indicated on the packaging. Then water them and wait for the beautiful flowering. Clear and simple instructions are included in the box. This not only makes it fun but also super easy!
It is possible to plant the flower bulbs between August and January. The best time to plant flower bulbs is autumn, between September and November. This gives them plenty of time to root before winter arrives. If you plant them later in the season, the flowers will bloom later. Always make sure there is a hole at least 10cm deep. This protects them from the cold! Consult the instructions on the package for specific planting instructions.
Yes, flower bulbs can also be planted in pots or containers! Make sure the pot has drainage holes so excess water can drain. It is also important that the pot does not freeze in the winter, so find a suitable place for the pot during the winter. Use good quality potting soil and follow the planting instructions. Please note that flower bulbs in pots may require slightly more care and water than flower bulbs in the ground.
